The Vision - Part I
But you will
receive power
when the Holy
Spirit comes on
you; and you
will be my
witnesses in
Jerusalem, and
in all Judea and
Samaria, and to
the ends of the
earth.
Acts 1:8
As the new year
is now upon us
(it is 2008,
right??), it
seems only right
that we evaluate
ourselves, and
what God is
doing in and
through us. I
recall some talk
earlier about
what IC3 is
today, and how
it has evolved
over the years.
I look at my own
life, and
realize that who
I am today, and
what I am doing
for the kingdom
has changed and
grown over the
years. This
reflection
brought me back
to the above
passage.
As individuals,
as leaders of
IC3, and as an
organization as
a whole, we will
go through a
natural series
of changes.
Part of the
beauty of God’s
gift of life is
the change, and
it applies to
both people and
institutions.
The challenge
for us is to not
lose sight of
what is most
important, even
as these natural
changes happen
in, through and
around us.
Whether the
picture for the
future is clear
or uncertain,
the words of
Acts 1:8
remain. Jesus
tells his
disciples
straight out
that they will
take the Gospel
out... though it
is given as a
statement of
fact, as opposed
to a command.
The message will
start close to
home, and spread
outward from
there as the
Apostles and
other believers
spread out from
Jerusalem to the
four corners of
the earth. The
picture has not
changed for us,
either. We are
more mobile than
ever before, and
the need for the
Gospel to go out
has never been
fully met. And
so, going out
today, we take
the Gospel with
us to...
We have been
entrusted with a
sacred task.
The Gospel must
go out. Even as
we discuss
clothing
options, work on
our legal
status, or bring
new spokes on
board, the call
is always
there. If we
neglect the
former things,
we as an
organization
will crumble.
If we neglect
the call, the
purpose for the
club has been
lost. Hmmm...
wasn’t balance
the theme this
past summer at
National Camp?
We must tend to
the tasks at
hand, and we
must continue to
take the Gospel
out. We can not
neglect one or
the other; both
are essential
elements of who
and what we are
at IC3.
The same
principle
applies to my
life. If I
don’t work, my
family and I
don’t eat. But
if I forget the
Gospel, and
forgo chances to
share, either in
the community,
at work, or
where ever I may
find myself,
what have I said
about my life,
and what is
truly important?
It is a new
year. The
Gospel must go
out. We must be
about the
business God has
given us. Our
task in all of
this is to be
prayerfully
faithful to the
whole work we
have been
entrusted
with...
